Privacy policy

Last updated

This policy covers the Steamify browser extension for Chrome, Edge and Firefox, the Steamify server it talks to (api.steamify.app) and this website, steamify.app. Steamify is independent and not affiliated with Valve Corporation.

The short version

  • Steamify has no accounts, no analytics, no ads and no tracking.
  • It never sees your Steam password. Your Steam cookies, session and Web API token are only ever sent to Steam, never to the Steamify server or anyone else.
  • To show prices, bans, stats and game deals, it sends item names, Steam IDs and game app IDs to the Steamify server. The server keeps none of them in a database, only in short-lived caches, and nothing is sold or used for advertising.
  • Your settings stay in your browser.
  • Steamify only sells, relists, removes listings or accepts and declines offers when you click.

What Steamify reads in your browser

Steamify runs on Steam Community (steamcommunity.com) and the Steam store (store.steampowered.com) with the Steam session you’re already signed in with, the same way Steam’s own pages do. To add its features, it reads, in your browser:

  • the Steam pages and data you open: your inventory, trade offers, Community Market pages and Market history, profiles, friends list and games lists, and the store’s home, game pages and search;
  • on the store, from Steam: your wishlist’s games on sale, the games you own (for the filter that hides DLC for games you don’t own), your store’s country, and a game’s reviews, news and prices in other regions;
  • your session’s Steam Web API token, from the Steam page, to call Steam’s own Web API (api.steampowered.com) from your browser;
  • your trade link, to show it with a copy button in the profile view.

The token, your session ID and your trade link are kept in memory only, never saved, and never sent anywhere but Steam.

What Steamify sends to its server

WhatWhenWhy
Item names, with the Doppler phase where there is oneInventory, trade offers, Market pages, Market history and the profile viewTo look up each item’s prices
Your CS2 inventory as item names, Doppler phases and copy counts, without your Steam IDWhen an inventory value chart is shownTo work out the inventory’s value over time
Steam IDs: the profiles you visit, trade partners, and your ownProfile pages, trade offers and the profile viewTo show bans, account checks, and FACEIT, Leetify and CS2 stats
Game app IDsGames lists, and the store’s home, game pages and searchTo show key shop and other stores’ prices, the lowest price ever, player counts, Twitch viewers, ProtonDB ratings, game length, and DRM and anti-cheat

Steamify never sends the server your password, cookies, session ID, Web API token or trade link, nor item IDs, floats, your wallet or what you paid. Its requests carry no account, install or user ID. Like any web request, they reach the server with your IP address and your browser’s user agent.

What the server does with it

  • Prices. Item names are looked up in the server’s price database, which holds item prices and nothing about users.
  • Bans, profiles and stats. The server asks Steam’s Web API, with its own key, for a Steam ID’s bans and profile items, and SkinMarketCap for profile details and CS2 stats (FACEIT, Leetify, Premier). Steamify never contacts FACEIT or Leetify itself. Profile and ban answers are kept in the server’s cache for 10 minutes.
  • Games. Depending on the feature, game app IDs are sent to GG.deals (key shop prices), IsThereAnyDeal (other stores’ prices and Steam’s lowest price ever), Steam’s Web API and SteamCharts (player counts), Augmented Steam (the all-time player peak), Twitch (live viewers and channels), ProtonDB (Linux ratings), HowLongToBeat (game length) and PCGamingWiki (DRM); for anti-cheat, the server reads AreWeAntiCheatYet’s public list of games. The answers are cached for between five minutes and 30 days, depending on how fast they change.
  • Exchange rates. Every hour the server gets the day’s exchange rates from Coinbase, for prices in other regions; that request carries nothing from you.
  • Logs. The server logs each request’s method, path, status and timing; the path of a profile lookup contains its Steam ID. Logs are capped in size and rotated, not archived. The hosting’s reverse proxy may also keep standard access logs, including IP addresses, for security and operations.
  • Rate limiting. To stop abuse, the server counts requests per IP address in memory and forgets an address after a minute or two of inactivity.

The server stores none of this in a database; cached answers are deleted when their time runs out. Data is shared only with the services named above, and only to answer the request you made. It is never sold, and never used for advertising or profiling.

What Steamify stores in your browser

  • storage.sync: your feature switches, the marketplaces you hide on the Market, the stores and price regions you compare, and the store searches you save. If you’ve turned on your browser’s sync, it carries them to your other browsers.
  • storage.local: view choices, such as grid or list view, the price source and whether the inventory value panel is open, plus a short-lived note used to open the settings panel, cleared after two minutes.

None of it is personal data, and uninstalling Steamify removes all of it. Prices, inventories and the other data Steamify loads are kept in the tab’s memory and gone when you close it.

Sites you visit through Steamify

Apart from Steam and its image servers, Steamify contacts no other site from your browser. Links to marketplaces, other game stores, FACEIT, Leetify, SkinMarketCap, GG.deals, IsThereAnyDeal, SteamDB, ProtonDB, HowLongToBeat, PCGamingWiki, SteamCharts and Twitch open only when you click them, and those sites have their own privacy policies.

Affiliate links

Some “Buy” links to marketplaces are affiliate links, currently those to LIS-SKINS, DMarket and CS.MONEY. They carry Steamify’s referral code and the item’s name, nothing about you. If you buy through one, Steamify may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. They open only when you click them.

Links to other game stores open through IsThereAnyDeal’s own redirect (itad.link), not Steamify’s; Steamify earns nothing from them.

Actions on your behalf

Steamify acts on Steam only when you click:

  • Quick Sell and Instant Sell list the item you clicked on the Market straight away. Steam may still ask you to confirm in the Steam mobile app.
  • Removing listings, relisting and accepting an offer go through Steam’s own confirmation.
  • Declining several offers uses Steam’s own decline, on the offers you picked.

Steamify never creates buy orders and never sends a trade offer by itself.

No analytics, no remote code

The extension contains no analytics, tracking or error reporting, and it runs only the code shipped inside it; it never loads code from the internet.

Steamify’s use of information it receives adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

This website

steamify.app sets no cookies and has no analytics or trackers. Its hosting may keep standard access logs, including IP addresses, for security and operations.

Your choices

Steamify keeps no account or profile about you, so beyond the short-lived caches and logs above there’s nothing tied to you to look up or delete. You can switch off any feature in Steamify’s settings, which also stops the lookups it makes, and uninstalling removes everything Steamify stored in your browser. For any question or request, write to [email protected].

Changes

When Steamify’s handling of data changes, this page is updated and the date at the top changes with it.

Some "Buy" links to marketplaces are affiliate links: Steamify may earn a commission when you buy through them, at no extra cost to you.
